Senior Studies Mentor

Mike is a patient, enthusiastic, conscientious individual with a passion for creating positive, inclusive learning environments where students are encouraged, empowered and respected every day. After graduating from Swansea University in the UK with a joint degree in Psychology and Sociology, Mike trained as a Learning Mentor and added a Level 4 Advice and Guidance qualification, going on to support learners accessing the British education system in Key Stages 3 and 4. Over the course of a decade in roles in Nottingham, Blackpool and Manchester, he gained experience supporting amazing young people, families and organisations, working with wide-ranging situations. Choosing to do an ESL qualification in 2011 eventually led Mike in a slightly different career direction. An opportunity to teach English in South Korea arose and he spent an illuminating 2 years working at a school in Busan before deciding to develop the ESL area a bit closer to home- in Spain, a country he'd always loved. During the following years, Mike worked as a self-employed English teacher, teaching 1:1 and in small groups to help students at colleges and companies, combining personalized in-person and online classes to work with more students in different cities and countries. With a strong belief that everyone is on their own educational journey and should have the opportunity to develop their unique skills, including wider life skills, Mike has an infectious spirit for learning and always puts the students' needs first.
