You can find the Mallorca Tutoring Academy between Son Rapinya and Son Vida in the north of Palma in the grounds of the Son Quint Golf Course. It’s the ideal position for a tutoring academy: good parking, surrounded by schools and close to a motorway. But sitting in the peaceful, library-like atmosphere of the academy itself you forget where you are, and concentrate on the matter in hand. Education and improvement. I met with Martyn Staley, a founder of the academy, and better known to his students as Mr Martyn.
I read a very interesting article recently. It suggested that GCSE (IGCSE as we know them here) are becoming increasingly more difficult and out of reach of some students, and because of this the GCSE course content is less relevant to a job than the applied literacy and numeracy that some employers require for parts of their workforce.
I had some amazing news last night, my daughter confirmed her degree results; she has achieved her first class degree in journalism.
How proud we are as parents and how wonderful it has been to watch her grow. My husband and I left her in London just under 3 years ago, a little scared and hugely apprehensive to begin her university journey. It was a very emotional day but we were sure she would ‘do alright’.
This is a busy period of time for many of our students as the IGCSE and A levels exams start in earnest. ICT and language oral examinations are just about to begin.
It is certainly a time for honing all academic skills.
