Jay (Juliet) Hirons is an English teacher with a variety of skills and talents. Jay has taught in schools, colleges and has been tutoring since 2006.

Jay went to university in Northampton and then completed her PGCE in English and Drama at the Institute of Education, University College London, after which she taught in London and Southampton. Both schools had exceptional English and Drama departments where Jay played a pivotal role. In Southampton the department put on three theatre productions a year; two of which were studio performances, devised and written with the students.

All of this wonderful educational experience was interrupted by a love of sailing and travelling. Jay worked on private and charter yachts. The experience of working closely with many types of people and seeing the world was not one to be missed. However, after a number of years in yachting, Jay settled in Mallorca and thoroughly enjoys tutoring the diverse student population of this incredible island.

Since opening the academy, Jay has tutored all ages: young learners all the way through to A level and IB students. Her current position as Head of English sees her mentoring, teaching and supporting the English language and literature team to achieve students’ highest levels. Jay’s methodology focuses on the essentials, that she holds dear.

Each session consists of the core components that every child should work with: reading, writing, speaking, listening and an element of computer work are all incorporated into the class.

Jay believes that learning should be an all-round experience; the combination of a fully trained, English and drama teacher are an excellent amalgamation.
